Equality Policy
Equal Opportunities Policy
Atlantic College is committed to equality of opportunity in education, training and employment. The College will continue to uphold this principle by promoting the continued development of academic, employment and other policies, procedures and practices that do not discriminate unfairly on the grounds of Gender, Marital Status, Family Status, Sexual Orientation, Religion, Age, Disability, Race, and Membership of the Traveller Community as per the Equality Acts 1998 and 2004.
The College seeks to eliminate unfair discrimination, redress imbalances and foster an ethos of equality and will continue to develop guidelines and codes of practice that will underline its commitment to the principle of equality.
The aim of the policy is to promote equality of opportunity for staff and students by ensuring that all academic, employment and other practices operate on the basis of the appropriate merits, qualifications, abilities and potential of individuals.
Special Requirements
Students who have any special physical, dietary, religious or learning requirements should speak to a tutor or member of College staff in confidence prior to or at course commencement. All reasonable efforts to accommodate special requirements will be made. Students who have a disability or specific learning difficulty that is likely to impact on academic performance may request special assessment arrangements – for example, additional time or the provision of special equipment. Please discuss with your tutor, at least two months before the assessment submission date.
Equality and Ethics
Atlantic College respects the dignity and diversity of all learners and staff. We aim for an environment and culture that is free from intimidation and discrimination. Enrolment information may include ethnic and disability details. This information is a means of monitoring the roll out of equal opportunity policies at the College.
Learners can expect:
• To be treated with courtesy and respect in interactions with College staff.
• To have reasonable needs to be respectfully addressed regardless of personal characteristics and differences.
• A formal complaints procedure to address unfair discrimination or harassment. This type of complaint will be treated seriously and dealt with fairly and efficiently.
The College expects students to:
• Not cheat, plagiarise, fabricate or infringe copyright.
• Treat College staff with courtesy at all times.
• Observe reasonable standards of behaviour with respect to all activities.
• Refrain from harassment or discrimination against students and staff.
• Demonstrate respect for difference.
